Learn How to Play Roulette
Roulette is one of the oldest casino games that you will come
across. Luckily, this is one game that has held its value over the
years. If you have never played roulette, you are missing out on a
game that will bring excitement, fun, camaraderie, and hopefully
money into your life.
So
where does the word roulette come from? Well, it is a French word
that means small wheel. And since the game of roulette is based
around the spinning of a wheel, it is easy to see where the name
came from. During a game of roulette, the croupier spins the wheel
while at the same time spinning a ball in the opposite direction.
Sooner or later the ball will stop moving, and where it lands will
determine who wins. As you can imagine, roulette is based largely on
luck. After all, there is no way of knowing when the wheel is going
to stop, and where the ball will land when the time comes.
Each pocket on the roulette wheel is numbered and colored. The
European version of the game consists of 37 pockets, whereas the
American version has 38. The difference between the two types of
games is that American roulette features both a zero and a double
zero. The European game only has one zero.
Betting on roulette is based largely on what you know, how much
money you have, and what type of risk you are willing to take. Some
of the more common roulette bets are known as: straight, split,
street, corner, sixline, even money, group bets, and column. You
will have to spend some time learning what each bet consists of
before you get started.
The house edge when playing American roulette is 5.26 percent. For
European roulette the house edge is 2.70 percent. These may not
appear to be the best odds of winning, but the more comfortable you
become with making roulette bets the better off you will be.
Roulette is available online and for playing in land based casinos.
For the most part, the game is the same no matter where you are
playing. As long as you understand the roulette wheel and the
betting structure, you should be able to play anywhere and
everywhere.
While there is no sure fire strategy for roulette success, as you
expand your knowledge you will be able to better your chances.
Albert Einstein put it best when he said, "You cannot beat a
roulette table unless you steal money from it".
Roulette is unlike any other game at the casino. There are no cards,
dice, or machines. It is just you, your bet, and a ball spinning
around a wheel.
