7 Card Stud - Stud Poker
7 Card Poker
7 Card Stud is a variation of the common stud poker. For
many years, 7 Card Stud was the most common type of poker in the
world. But as of late, Texas Hold ‘Em has taken over this
distinction. But with that being said, there are still a large
number of people who find 7 Card Stud to be an exciting game to play
at the casino, or simply at home with friends and family. This poker
game is very popular in casinos in the United States, especially in
the eastern portion of the country.
A game of 7 Card Stud poker consists of anywhere from two to eight
players. The ability to play with only two players is one of the
main reasons that this game is so popular. After all, there are
times when you simply do not have the ability to round up more
players for a game.
Rules of 7 Card Stud
If you are familiar with the general rules of poker, catching onto 7
Card Stud will not be difficult. Additionally, to get started you
will need to have a good understanding of hand values. This way, you
will know when you have a good hand or when you need to work harder
to put yourself in position to win.
A game of 7 Card Stud starts when each player is dealt one card face
up, and two cards face down. When playing at a casino, there will be
a dealer who is in charge of this. Of course, when playing at home,
one player will have to act as the dealer during each hand. This job
can be rotated so that everybody has the chance to deal, etc.
If you are playing 7 Card Stud with no bring in, the first round of
bets starts with the player who has the highest ranked card showing.
If there is a tie, suit does not matter, but instead the player that
is first moving clockwise from the dealer gets to make the initial
bet.
After the first round of bets is complete, another card is dealt
face up to each player. From there, another round of bets takes
place starting with the player who has the best hand out of their
upcards.
Moving on, a third upcard is used for round three, a fourth for
round four, and a downcard for the fifth round of betting. Finally,
a showdown takes place if necessary.
After playing a few rounds of 7 Card Stud you will catch on quickly.
The game is similar to other poker variations, and makes for a lot
of fun.
