How to Bet on Sports
Sports betting can be complicated do to the pure fact that there
are many types of bets spanning across sports from baseball to
tennis to soccer. If you are going to bet on sports, the
first thing that you may want to do is decide what game(s) interest
you. This allows you to learn about the particular bets that are
specific to that sport as opposed to spanning the entire betting
world.
Generally speaking, there are three types of sports bets to become
familiar with. While you may never bet in each manner, you should at
least know that they are available.
Types of Bets
First off, there is the straight bet or point spread bet. This is
when you place a bet against the point spread. For instance, in a
football game one team may be favored by seven points. This will
show as +7. If you are going to take this bet, you can choose the
favored team, but in order to win they will have to win the game by
more than seven points. On the other side of things, you could take
the underdog in this game and essentially start the game with a
seven point lead.
Moving on, total bets are also very common. This is when you place a
bet based on the total points that will be scored in a given game.
Again, let's look at the football example. The over/under on a game
may be 40 points. If you choose the under, the total score for the
game cannot exceed 40 for you to win. If you choose over, the total
score has to be over 40 to cash in.
Finally, money line bets are easy to place but usually do not pay
out nearly as well. You have to bet more to win less with a money
line bet. With one of these bets, you will be wagering on which team
will win the game; it has nothing to do with a line or the total
score of the game.
Sports betting is popular online and off. The most popular sports
that are bet on include: baseball, football, and basketball. But no
matter what sport you love, you can place bets after learning how to
do so.
